Starting out at a walking pace, developing confidence with bike balance, smooth operation of bike controls, slowly building your skill level so by the completion of this session you will be moving off, stopping and circulating smoothly, operating gear change and ready to move on toward your first stage of License with the Basic Skills Handling Certificate.  Recommended time for your initial introduction is 2 hours with your trainer on the Riding Course.  Further sessions may be booked for continued development.

Competency Based Training

The CBTA Training course is designed to prepare you for your License.

A perfect course to prepare you and put you in the strongest position to achieve this next license stage. This is a practical riding session completed on the road in mainstream traffic.

You will cover all requirements for the 6R or 6F Assessment. From safety bike checks to practical riding demonstrating the safest road position(‘s), avoiding potential hazards, correct gear use when cornering and lines through corners.

Your trainer will ensure you have the correct riding techniques and coach you to refine any areas that you may want to practice before you do the Assessment.

Course % of content covers:

  • Bike Safety Checks               20%
  • Theory                                          30%
  • Actual Riding component   50%

The Road content has 90% of the tasks included in the actual Assessment.  This allows your trainer, the ability to provide you with insight of areas of concern which may interfere with the positive outcome and result of your Assessment.

EXPERIENCED RIDER

Refresher – Pre Full License

Riding regularly and confidently on the roads and have completed prior training courses ie CBTA training course, you may consider adding this course prior completing your class 6 Full Motorcycle License.

This course is a practical ride and offers a qucik Assessment of rider techniques and skills prior to the Assessment. You will get reassurance that you are well prepared for the Assessment.

Advancement to Higher Skills, – Motorcycle Engagement

Gain a higher degree of listening, hearing and feeling, to be truly connected with  your motorcycle.  Increasing your awareness, utilizing good body posture with adopting precise head/eye position.  Effects of weight shift through front end and rear end of bike.  Recognizing bike feedback from handling issues and what they represent!

Extending your riding techniques and exploring riding boundaries to be the best you can be;

  •                Better cornering lines
  •                Being Smooth
  •                Use of Gears when and where!
  •                Use of Brakes, is it OK!
  •                Best Body position

When traveling in higher speed zones, your skill level needs to be lifted as does your awareness and reflexes.  Managing safe and smooth corners starts from good preparation in positioning of the bike well before the corner even starts.  Knowing how to look through a corner whilst keeping a safe steady line and identifying your exit are riding features you should now be aware of.

For up skilling road riding techniques

This course is designed to enhance your road riding skills in an environment which allows you to focus more independently on crafting your ability to gain more confidence in corners, finding correct lines, braking – fine feel of front and rear brake application whilst cornering without oncoming traffic.

Race Training

Included in both of the above course you will have a component on:

  • Track Etiquette, Pre Track Riding Bike Check (essential)
  • Bike Set up – suspension/levers
  • Riding Apparel – speed rating

Motorcycle Licenses

Basic Handling Skills Certificate

Practical:

BHST – Basic Handling Skills Test.  Must be completed before you can complete the Theory Test.

 

The Basic Handling Skills Test is the first stage in the licensing process, it is conducted on a pre set course with specific maneuvers. Your Instructor will coach you through these requirements so you can confidently pass this test.

You can elect one of the following options dependent on your riding experience:

Once you have successfully passed the Basic Skills Test, you will be issued with the appropriate Certificate which will allow you to progress to the second part (theory test), to obtain your (6L) Motorcycle Learners License.

Theory component:

You will need to book in with the AA to complete this stage.

Learner License Stage 6L

Steps Required to Achieve your Learner License

  • Age Required – Be at least 16 years of age
  • Basic Skills Certificate – Practical Riding Skills on a preset course
  • Theory Multi-choice – 35 Road Code Questions, (25 General + 10 Motorcycle Specific)

Requirements To Achieve This Stage

To achieve your Motorcycle Learners License you initially have to obtain the Basic Handling Skills Certificate and once you have been issued with your copy of this certificate, you can then book into any AA to sit your Theory, which is the final stage to achieving this level of License.

Restricted License Stage 6R

Steps Required to Achieve your Restricted License – 2 options

  • Option 1 – No Stand down period – Take a training course CBA (Competency Based Assessment & Training), which will give you the skill level to confidently achieve the Restricted stage without waiting 6 months from obtaining your 6L.
  • Option 2 – Wait 6 months – From the date you started on your 6L Learner License
  • You must be 16 1/2 or over to move onto your Restricted License.
Fast Track

Recommended Training

If you are enrolled on this Fast Track program you will have completed prior training courses, therefore you may wish to include the Refresher Course just prior to the Assessment.

You may have just achieved your Motorcycle Learners License and wanting to opt into shortening the time it takes to get to your full.  The best course to prepare you for this, refer to the CBTA Training Course.

Full License Stage 6F

Steps Required to Achieve your Full License

  • Produce License with appropriate Class  –  Class 6R
  • You must be at least 17 years old
  • Practical Ride (30mins)  –  Successfully pass the (CBTA) Assessment Ride within the allowable score as set by the NZTA standard.
  • (further conditions may apply if transferring an International License or re-applying for Full License status – refer to NZTA website
5 + Years on Restricted

Recommended Training

Preparing to complete your Motorcycle License.   If you have not attended any current training programs you may feel best prepared with including the CBTA training course.

Experienced Rider

Recommended Training

Once having participated in a previous CBTA or other training program you will have insight of the requirements to achieve this stage, therefore you may with to consider including the Refresher Course to cover any areas that may need refining.  This course is usually added on immediately prior to the Assessment.

Fast Track Your License

Learners to Full in just 12 months!        This is possible.

Starting From;

  • Basic Handling Skills Certificate
  • Restricted License – (Key Stage)
  • Full Motorcycle License

You may be starting out or already on your Motorcycle Learner or Restricted License.  You can still take advantage of shortening the time to get to your Full Motorcycle License.
